Atlanta, Georgia, USA -- March 21, 2006 -- U.S. COST, a leading provider of estimating and cost management software, announced the availability of the Success Design Exchange mapping device, an innovative link designed to streamline data communication between 3D CAD models and cost estimate creation.

Many of today's 3D models, particularly Building Information Models (BIM), incorporate graphical and non-graphical information relevant to a part or assembly that is incorporated into a design. This might include the size and location of a part as well as the manufacturer, fire rating and type of material. Success Design Exchange seamlessly synchronizes the estimating-related data built into these models directly to Success Estimator where it becomes available to create an estimate structure, extract all quantities and associate costs automatically with no data reentry.

Steve Williams, Vice-President of Software at U.S. COST, said, "Bottom line, this tool allows estimators to spend less time putting together quantity takeoffs and more time focusing on the subjective components of estimating, changing market conditions and analyzing the project to see cost saving options. In essence, they can be an estimator."

Success Design Exchange is a discrete application that works within the current release of Autodesk Revit providing a seamless connection to Success Estimator. From within the Building Information Model, the user can uniquely map components or groups of components to cost libraries, either commercial- or client-specific or a combination of both. These databases can contain individual cost items or assemblies complete with labor, equipment and material costs. Once an item has been mapped in Success Design Exchange, that map will remain in place for future projects utilizing the same item. In other words, each subsequent project run through Success Design Exchange requires less mapping than the previous project. When the mapping is complete, Success Design Exchange pushes the information to Success Estimator where estimators can generate a robust estimate, complete with quantities and costs.
